We’re delighted to introduce our new environmental project partner, Carbon Kind, who work in partnership with the charity Deki and rural communities in Togo, West Africa, to transform climate challenges into local opportunities.
At onboard:earth, we believe it is vital that our mission to help the live events industry tackle climate change also helps communities on the frontline of climate change. Support for such communities is critical to achieving a just transition—moving to a low-carbon economy in a way that ensures those least responsible for climate change but most affected by it are empowered as key drivers of climate action.
Channeling funds to projects like Deki and Carbon Kind is part of our vision to unite the industry in environmental restoration by creating sustainable livelihoods in areas already impacted by climate change.
Donations to onboard:earth’s Trees+ programme will help fund the Carbon Kind clean cookstove project, which replaces traditional open fires with fuel-efficient stoves. These stoves reduce wood use by over 52%, cutting greenhouse gas emissions and helping to prevent deforestation.
The environmental benefits of clean cookstoves are matched by their social impact: reduced indoor air pollution improves the health of women and children, while less time spent collecting firewood frees up hours each day for education, farming, and income-generating activities.
In 2023, Carbon Kind established a local cookstove workshop in rural Togo—not just a production facility, but a center for empowerment. Local teams are trained to manufacture and distribute stoves using community networks, ensuring that the environmental, economic, and social benefits remain rooted in the communities they serve.
In addition to reducing emissions, each carbon credit purchase supports eight verified UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—including gender equality, improved health, and climate action. The carbon reductions have been verified under Verra VCS. All eight SDGs have been independently verified through SDVista, with ongoing monitoring to ensure transparency and lasting impact. Our Approach to Climate Action
To ensure that onboard:earth helps fund all the critical steps in fighting climate change, we:
Help reduce carbon emissions first: We provide tools and resources to support our members in measuring and reducing travel impacts with proven strategies for carbon efficiency and low-carbon travel alternatives.
Acknowledge unavoidable emissions: To address unavoidable emissions, we support our members in funding our climate action programs. This ensures that we not only help communities improve their resources and build sustainable livelihoods but also preserve and regenerate threatened ecosystems. We also support the just transition to a low-carbon economy with investment in renewable energy projects that provide neighborhoods with access to affordable green power and education.
