Industry leaders from onboard:earth, Live Green, and SAF experts SkyNRG convene for a candid online session tackling artist travel emissions and best practices.
onboard:earth, the live event industry’s travel-focused environmental charity, has announced The Green Room: When is Sustainable Aviation Fuel the answer to artist travel emissions? Designed as a small candid online roundtable bringing people in the live music and event sector interested in Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF); particularly those who book, manage and move artists, together to address one of the sector’s most complex sustainability challenges.
Scheduled for 3rd December 2026 (10:30am–11:45am GMT), the 75-minute session is designed specifically for artist managers, tour bookers, festival operators, sustainability leads, logistics teams and those with an interest in SAF. It aims to foster an open dialogue on the role of SAF in sustainable touring strategies, highlight lessons from real-world applications, and explore shared approaches to addressing unavoidable flight emissions.
TACKLING THE INDUSTRY’S TOUGHEST EMISSIONS
Artist travel remains one of the hardest carbon impacts to abate in live music. While frameworks such as the Live Green Artist Rider and Vision for Sustainable Events’ Climate Transition Plan 2030 highlight SAF as an important strategy for touring artists who rely on flying, uncertainty persists around credibility, carbon accounting, costs, and practical deployment.
Furthermore, the industry lacks consensus on accountability, whether responsibility for carbon footprints from travel should fall to festivals, venues, promoters, artists, or audiences. As well as how responsibility shifts across different touring models, route demands, exclusivity clauses, and residency arrangements.
EXPERT-LED AGENDA & REAL-WORLD CONTEXT
Convened by onboard:earth, Bethan Riach (Strategic Communications Director at onboard:earth) will set the scene with the latest insights on artist travel impacts. Chaired by Ross Patel (LIVE Green), the roundtable features leading SAF specialists Roosa Vikkunen (Brand Partnership Manager) and Jez Lowe (Commercial Manager) from SkyNRG.
Participants will take away clearer answers on where SAF fits into strategies, where SAF is already being used as part of tour sustainability strategies, insights into best practices regarding responsibility and communication, and resources to share SAF knowledge with teams and clients.
“Cutting artist travel impacts can be complex, and while SAF is suggested in recent research as a long-term ambitious action for artists, promoters, sponsors, and fans, industry professionals need clear, unvarnished guidance on where it actually fits,” says Bethan Riach, Strategic Communications Director at onboard:earth. “The Green Room is designed to provide actionable insight, strip away the noise, and help the sector build genuine consensus.”
