Citizen Ticket: collecting non-audience travel data

In 2024, Ticket agent Citizen Ticket (CT), previously The Ticketsellers, and onboard:earth worked together to identify ways to gather better non-audience travel data at outdoor events. This included CT providing a data capture survey for their festival clients to use in their onsite accreditation process and using their event management software, Eventree, to gather data with clients. Following the festival season the findings were reviewed and the data collection process was analysed through surveys and interviews to understand what had and hadn’t worked in order to improve guidance for 2025.

Learnings from the project have led CT to update Eventree to include travel questions. These can be turned on in different survey modules that festivals already use e.g. site induction, payroll, emergency contact and ID uploading. The option for festivals to ask questions at the onsite accreditation is still in place along with a further option for travel data that has been input in advance to be checked at onsite accreditation to improve accuracy. For 2025 CT have committed to updating their systems to support festivals to gather better data and share further learnings.

  • Putting questions into the site induction process in their system
  • Making this an opt-in process so it’s automatically available and account managers will advise their clients
  • Option for accreditation to check the answers given with the previous step
  • Putting in a step for any staff to answer questions before they get their travel questions
  • Keeping the accreditation option for smaller festivals who benefitted from it
  • Making it easier for festivals to download their travel data from the system
  • Summarising the insights from 2025 in terms of festival success and learnings through a survey

Since onboard:earth was founded in 2016 The Ticketsellers and now Citizen Ticket have supported events and event audiences to better understand their travel impacts with a built in carbon calculator that allows audiences to calculate travel emissions and made donations to environmental restoration through onboard:earth.
