Green Man Festival: Leading the Way in Sustainable Travel

Greenman Festival has made significant strides in providing greener alternatives for attendees and crew. By offering multiple low-carbon travel options, the festival has reduced reliance on private vehicles and minimised its carbon footprint.

Greenman Festival has expanded its sustainable travel initiatives for audience and crew to reduce reliance on private vehicles and minimised its travel carbon footprint. Free shuttle buses run from Abergavenny train station to the festival site, transporting 2,305 attendees to the festival and 2,384 back in 2024 alone. Since 2019, 7,558 festival-goers have travelled via 26 National Express coach routes across the UK, significantly lowering travel emissions compared to car journeys.

Since 2022, Green Man partnered with Red Fox Cycling, to offering guided rides from Bristol and Cardiff, with over 80 participants since then and 29 signed up for 2025 already.

Reducing staff travel impacts: Dedicated staff National Express coaches from London and Bristol were introduced in 2023, ensuring crew members also have greener travel options. Green Man encourages car sharing by promoting Liftshare on its website and manages a dedicated Facebook group for crew lift shares.

To reduce congestion in surrounding areas, the festival uses an off-site Park and Ride system, provides a free shuttle bus for Crickhowell residents, and has adjusted opening times from 10 AM to 8 AM on Thursdays to ease traffic impact on local communities. To discourage unnecessary car use, they charge for car parking and live-in vehicles, with prices increasing each year.
