Partner Update: The Big Lemon Bus network goes fully electric for Clean Air Day, June 17, 2022

The Big Lemon CIC launched the UK’s first solar-powered electric bus in 2017 with the aim of creating the UK’s first fully electric bus network. Donations from onboard.earth’s members to our Energy Revolution programme in 2017 and 2019 went towards helping this pioneering company transform public transport in their local area and demonstrate the low carbon infrastructure needed in society.

This June, for the first time and following many years of hard work and with the help of a large community of supporters and investors, The Big Lemon ran a fully zero-emissions electric bus service on all their public bus routes in Brighton & Hove.

They followed this achievement by hosting the London to Brighton EV Rally, June 25, welcoming 67 different electric vehicles in 11 different categories – from e-bikes to buses, with the aim of demonstrating and celebrating the rapid development of electric vehicles and renewable energy technology. The rally ended at an E-village on Brighton Beach which encouraged visitors to explore the electric way of life, with live music, entertainment and displays from the UK’s leading EV companies, along with an education zone and test track area to allow people to ask trial switching to electric.
